Situated in the embrace of the river Drina and Gučevo mountain, Banja Koviljača is a widely known natural health resort and one of the most beautiful spas in Serbia.

The natural factor of Banja Koviljača – thermal mineral water and sulphurous mud (peloid) are proven to enhance natural recovery and have a beneficial effect on the overall health. Combining the strengths of traditional treatment methods and modern achievements in the field of physical medicine, Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital Banja Koviljača successfully treats rheumatological and bone-joint diseases as well as post-operative conditions after injuries and neurological diseases. Within the Specialized Hospital, for over 33 years, there is also a children’s ward that specializes in the rehabilitation of children.

Specialized hospital for rehabilitation, headed by prim. Dr. Aleksandar Jokić, during the SarsCoV-19 virus pandemic, had interrupted its regular activities on two occasions and entered the system of covid hospitals of the Republic of Serbia, for which it received an award from the President of the Republic of Serbia. After that, a difficult period of financial instability followed, from which it emerged with a record business, and an award for Business Excellence and an award for Leadership.

Historically significant cooperation with the Pension Insurance Institute of the Republic of Austria (PVA) was achieved. After extensive checks, which included visits by an expert delegation (a delegation from the Pension Insurance Institute of the Republic of Austria (PVA), together with representatives of the Austrian Embassy in Belgrade, as well as representatives of the Republic Fund for Pension and Disability Insurance and the Social Insurance Institute), the project which lasted almost three years was successfully brought to an end with the decision that the Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital Banja Koviljača is the only spa in Serbia and the only spa outside the European Union that met all the requirements of the Austrian commission in terms of equipment, staff expertise, quality of services and treatment effects. Representatives of the Banja Koviljača Specialized Hospital and the Pension Insurance Institute of Austria, on June 22, 2021, in the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade, in the presence of the Minister for Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs – Prof. Dr. Darija Kisić Tepavčević and Minister of Health – dr Zlatibor Lončar, signed the Agreement on the provision of medical rehabilitation, in the field of the musculoskeletal system, to Austrian insured persons, i.e. beneficiaries of PVA pension rights. Banja Koviljača Specialized Hospital then becomes the first and only rehabilitation center in Serbia that meets all standards and has cooperation with the state pension fund of Austria, whose insured persons are referred for treatment in Banja Koviljača. The mother tongue is the link that made the effect of the treatment complete, so Austrian pensioners originally from Serbia with bone-joint type problems got that opportunity in Banja Koviljača. More than 150 patients have been referred for treatment in Banja Koviljača since September 2021, of which half of the users have completed rehabilitation.

Located in the magnificent edifice of the Bath of King Peter I, in the heart of the Banja Koviljača park, is an oasis of relaxation and life energy renewal – Kovilje wellness center– where you can indulge in enjoyment worthy of kings. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, surrounded by beautiful nature that completes the feeling of refuge from the stress of everyday life, the Kovilje wellness center is a unique oasis of relaxation. Surrendering to all the benefits of bathing in warm sulfur water, pools, aromatic baths, mud packs or massages is an extraordinary experience that you cannot resist.

Part of the Banja Koviljača Specialized Hospital is the famous Kur-salon, a castle built in 1932 for King Aleksandar Karađorđević. Conceived to be a salon for entertainment, a place of prestige and glamour, Kur-salon today also offers numerous other artistic, cultural, catering and entertainment facilities, thus becoming a kind of symbol of the Podrinje region.
