Vojvodina offers numerous types of tourism, starting with active vacations, cycle tourism, nautical, eco-tourism, cultural and religious, hunting, fishing, recreational, congress and, of course, gastronomy, for which the people of Vojvodina are particularly famous. City break destinations in Vojvodina are Novi Sad and Subotica.
The Danube with its backwaters creates a unique natural environment on the edge of which there are numerous cultural values, which are easily accessible thanks to the marina in Apatin. Navigating the river will be more interesting if you visit the nature reserves and parks on its banks, in a series from Apatin to Novi Sad (Upper Podunavlje, Karađorđevo, Tikvara, Begečka jama, Koviljsko-Petrovaradinski rit).
The Tisza is a calm and elegantly winding river. There are quiet towns with a valuable cultural heritage on the Tisza banks. In the early summer days, a unique swarming of the Tisza mayflies takes place here, known as the “Tisza blooming”, which otherwise represents a specific phenomenon in the world. The banks of Vojvodina’s rivers offer numerous swimming areas, and in addition to swimming in the rivers, the Bački Petrovac Aquapark is a special attraction, where you can enjoy the warm summer months. Also, Bela Crkva lakes, located in the southeast of Vojvodina, in Banat, are an ideal place for vacation.
Demographically, Vojvodina is a conglomerate of different peoples and ethnic groups, and as such it is characterized by a wealth of different cultures. The mosaic of local cultural heritage is something that only Vojvodina can offer in the European tourist market, because nowhere on the old continent is there such an ethnic diversity. Vojvodina has been inhabited by many peoples since ancient times, for this reason there are numerous archaeological sites and historical monuments on its territory. One of the most significant and best-preserved archaeological sites is Sirmium, located on the site of today’s Sremska Mitrovica. Sirmium was one of the capitals of the Roman Empire and was one of the largest metropolises of its time. The settlement in that place dates back to the Celtic era, and traces of settlement date back to 7,000 years ago. In addition to the Imperial Palace with the Roman circus, other monumental public buildings such as the so-called “Licinian Baths”, granary (horreum), commercial and craft quarters. Luxurious town villas were found, as well as multi-storey residential buildings where the poorer population lived.
Near Bač, not far from the Bačka fortress, there is a monastery built in the late Romanesque and early Gothic style.
Fruška Gora is the unique sacred heritage of Vojvodina with 17 preserved Orthodox monasteries that were built in the period from the 15th to the 18th century.
